The mountain town and ski resort of Peć pod Snježko was created from the original buildings of the past in the valley, which spread towards the surrounding hills. Large tourist accommodation and hotels are slowly being built. The important character of this area consists of individual buildings standing along the main road that are in close contact with the surrounding nature. The atmosphere is captured by the road that goes up through the valley next to the stream and the opening between the houses that allows a view of the next plateau of the village and the huts scattered across the grass. The design of four residential buildings continues this quality thread and develops and elaborates them further.

In the investor’s plot in the center of the village, in a visually exposed place, stood a small department store Snežka from the 80s. The long mass of the building gave the impression of an obstacle and obscured the view of the next plain of the village. The rest of the space around the building is not used or well maintained because it does not belong to either the building or the road. The investor’s commission built 90 apartments in the form of apartment houses on the plot of the former office building and surrounding empty space.

The former shopping center building has been removed. In its place, a new grass-covered shopping floor was built. Four houses were built on this grass roof. The houses vary in size and orientation. Between them there is a dynamic and exciting spatial relationship, strengthened by the rising terrain.

The lawn roof is a semi-private open space between the houses, intended for various activities and events. There is an outdoor grill with seating, a children’s playground, and the area in front of the apartment serves as a terrace for individual apartments.

The building has two underground garages on different levels. The common ground floor is accessible through the interior of all apartments.

The entrance to the apart-hotel is through the reception. The winter entrance leads to the ski room where each apartment owner has his own ski box.

The common ground floor has a variety of services for residents: a game room for adults with a 3D golf simulator, a room for teenagers, a children’s game room, a winery with cold wine where guests have their own private wine box, a lobby with a fireplace. and a restaurant specializing in grilled meat.

Business premises include supermarkets and their facilities, pharmacies, shops connected to supermarkets, sports equipment shops and ski and bike services.

The tower is organized around four elevators and staircases. The apartment is entered through a shared courtyard in front of the elevator. By organizing the apartments in four towers, the long residential corridors have been eliminated, which supports the relationship of neighbors on individual floors and in the house.

The house is based on underground columns on two levels – benches on the slopes. The basic structure of the house is made of reinforced concrete, which transitions to a brick system with concrete ceilings on the upper level of the building. Pitched roofs are concrete monoliths.

The ground floor is covered with stones. The Meadow above the floor is an intensive Optigrun green roof with support ribs on inclined planes. The roof of the tower is covered with a large green roof with sedum mats.

The apart-hotel is intended for the recreation of apartment owners, but also offers their apartments for rent if there is a vacancy. The rental system includes reception and cleaning services, as well as full hotel services for accommodated guests. Buying such an apartment is guaranteed to be a profitable investment for the owner. The interior of the apartment is designed in four variants that the owner can choose from. The original designed interior is the condition of the owner for the real integration of the building into the rental system. Each style represents its own graphic symbol that is present in the interior. If you don’t understand French, BTT means “ball of the whole house” (I’m not sure the translation is very useful, but now you can’t go wrong!) . For a little story, the first edition of the BTT was held in the streets of Paris. It is an outdoor event and that explains the name. Dance no matter where you dance. Later, BTT moved to the venue of the Roots tango festival “La parole errante” (this time, translation is welcome, but I’ll let you google it) just a week before the second event. These two events decided to share the venue and the floor for the best.

I found BTT in 2017. I was in Paris for another tango show. A friend took me there during my dinner break. I entered, forgot about the first event and stayed until the end of BTT. The atmosphere was special. I’m in love. I decided to come back next year. In 2017 I danced on the wooden floor and had a great time. In 2018 there is no free floor due to the national day and all the traditional balls. We danced on the free floor and it was still fine. I feel very excited for that experience because it’s like going back to the roots of the show. So, if I had only one sentence to describe BTT, I could say – “With or without a floor, you’ll be asking for more.”

Let’s start with the non-dance part of the show. It takes place outside in the garden. To explain it, the first simile that comes to mind is “the end of the school year celebration” (as a pleasant memory). You have stalls with local food and drinks, big tables to sit and share time with people, a small pool for kids in the middle, a place to store clothes that you don’t use anymore, etc. Knowing this, I arrived on Saturday 2 hours before the music started. I bought a pie and a salad, sat down and ate with a German dancer who had also arrived early. Like me, he just wanted to enjoy the sun, talk a little and enjoy this peaceful moment before the event. If people come slowly, you have time to cheer them on without the pressure of the game.

BTT is not just tango. You can also find other activities like theater, yoga, other expressive arts. This combination of activities is an introduction compared to the monomaniacal aspects of some events. Folklore and yoga are more common in the event, but tango remains the main element. In the case of BTT, you can see it is 50/50. You can also find various sellers of tango equipment / shoes. If you get bored in Paris, there are other options to keep you busy and shopping.

BTT is not a classic milonga, or a classic event. The whole place is set up as simply as possible – a floor, a DJ in the middle, a big step for seating and that’s it. You can find some odd decorations – I’m still trying to figure out what some of the items put there mean. Now what can I say about tango? I’m sure you’ve heard many stories about tango in Paris and the milonga atmosphere. I have guessed what kind. Just forget everything you imagined. The committee provides a place where the dancers can create their own show. Everyone can find their place and have a good time. I like this picture of freedom when I find it. I haven’t asked the organizers if this is what they are trying to create, but this is what I feel.

I go to Paris once a year. BTT is where I can meet Parisian dancers I love. They have different profiles. They did not go to the same milonga, but gathered in this place. Some are unusual and are here by accident like a girl I haven’t seen in 5 years and I don’t know how she got here. Others track all releases. The event is also a mix of dancers from Paris and travelers. I always had at least one good surprise with a stranger.
