The investor password in MT4 is just another password to access your MT4 account. It is a passphrase containing numbers and letters. It provides read-only access to trading accounts and this is how you can show your trading results to other traders.

Every MetaTrader account has two passwords: a master password (also known as a master or password) and an investor password. Each password gives us a different permission in the trading account.

We usually log in to the MT4 account using the master password because this is what Forex brokers give us. The master password gives us all trading rights. It means we can open new trades and modify or close existing trades.

When we log into an MT4 account using an investor password, we have no right to trade. We can only see open trades and account history.

When you give your investor a feel for other traders, they can evaluate your trading strategy. And of course you are safe because trading in investor mode is not allowed. You can share your read-only password with anyone you want: other merchants, friends, family, clients, etc.

When you register an MT4 using an investor password, the trader also calls it “Investor Mode” or “MT4 Investor Account”.

When you open a real trading account with a Forex broker, they usually send the MT4 credentials by email. So you will see it in your inbox.

Not all brokers can email this information, but if they do, you should be able to easily find the read-only password and the master password.

Some brokers also send MT4 password emails for demo accounts. So if you can not find your MT4 account password, it is definitely worth searching all your email inbox 🙂

If you can access MT4 with two passwords, is it a good idea to find out which password you actually used?

When you log in to MT4 with a read-only password, it means you are viewing the account in “Investor” or “Read-Only” mode. It means that you can not perform trading activities such as opening, trading, modifying or closing trades.

After logging into MT4, you can open the “Journal” tab at the bottom of MetaTrader to find the message “Investor Mode [Trading is not allowed]”. It tells you that you are logged in with a read-only password.

Another way to know if you are logged in using an investor password or a master password is to look at the top toolbar where the “New Order” button is located.

When you log in with the MT4 Master Password, the “New Order” button will open and you will be able to open a new trade.

If you click on the “New Order” button you will see a new window open with a sell and buy button.

In Investor Mode, MT4 also hides other menus for trading. If you right-click on a table you will see that there are no commercial menu options there.

The “New Order” menu is also hidden in the Market Watch popup when you log in to MT4 using a merchant password.

The “New Order” menu is available in the Market Watch tab if you log in to MT4 with a master password.

Then let me show you how to change the investor password if you want to exclude all people who already have access to your MT4 in investor mode.

In short, to clarify. All MT4 accounts have read-only passwords by default. You may not have it if your broker did not send it to you.

So when someone says “create investor password” or “delete investor password” it usually just means “change MT4 investor password”.
